T: Kalatura, Western Province, Sri Lanka, M.E.Hale 51044; holo: US; iso: BM.

Thallus endophloeodal to epiphloeodal, to c. 100 µm thick, pale to medium greyish green, glossy, smooth, continuous, non-rimose. True cortex continuous or discontinuous, to c. 30 µm thick, of periclinal hyphae. Algal layer well developed, continuous or discontinuous; calcium oxalate crystals absent to abundant, small to large, clustered, occasionally forming thin layers. Vegetative propagules not seen. Ascomata inconspicuous, to c. 0.25 mm diam., ±rounded to elongate or distinctly lirelliform (to 0.5 mm long), apothecioid, solitary to marginally fused, often arranged in rows, immersed to slightly raised and hemispherical. Disc rarely becoming visible from above, pale flesh-coloured, epruinose. Pores minute, to c. 0.08 mm diam. (larger in elongate ascomata), ±rounded to irregular or elongate, entire or coarsely split; proper exciple not visible from above. Thalline rim margin thin, variable in colour, often brighter than the thallus to whitish, sometimes brownish, rarely concolorous; thalline rim incurved. Proper exciple fused, mostly thin, pale yellowish internally, yellowish brown to brownish marginally, basally often amyloid (this occasionally extending throughout the subhymenium). Hymenium to c. 90 µm thick, not inspersed, moderately conglutinated; paraphyses ±straight to irregular, slightly interwoven, with ±distinctly thickened somewhat irregular tips; lateral paraphyses and columellar structures absent. Epihymenium hyaline, lacking granules. Asci 8-spored; tholus thick, sometimes with a distinct tapered ocular chamber, thin when mature. Ascospores transversely septate, rarely with a weakly developed longitudinal septum, mostly oblong to ellipsoidal, with ±rounded to narrowly rounded ends, hyaline, non-amyloid to faintly amyloid, 10–22 × 5–9 µm, with 3–4 (–5) × 1 (–2) locules; locules ±rounded, rarely somewhat acute, subglobose to oblong or irregular; end cells usually having the same shape; septa thin to thick, regular to irregular; ascospore wall thick, variably halonate; endospore thin to thick. Pycnidia not seen.
CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C–, P–; no secondary compounds detectable by TLC.

Uncommon on bark in rainforest in north-eastern Qld, at altitudes of 60–1500 m. Previously known from Sri Lanka.
